Earth Mover
Popular Juried Art Show Ups the Ante
Best of Show 2010, Erin Essin Campbell
Its broad parameters make it one of the region's most eagerly anticipated juried shows: The Arts Council of Henderson County's "Bring Us Your Best" exhibition turns eight this year, and is still open to professional, hobby and student artists alike, working in any media.
However, a number of major changes are giving new shape to the annual event. The multimedia display will be newly hosted by Blue Ridge Community College, in the school's Technology Education & Development Center. And two new awards have been added to the cache of honors. "We Care for Earth's Lifeboat," sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Hendersonville with a $250 prize, "will acknowledge the artist whose work best embodies and illustrates a respect for the environment and the interdependence of all existence" -- central tenets of the UU church.
A $350 "People's Choice" award is the other new feature (the winner will be determined by gallery visitors). Cash awards will total $2000.
The opening reception and awards ceremony for "Bring Us Your Best VIII" happens Aug. 19 from 5-7 p.m. For artists' applications and guideline information, call (828) 693-8504, see www.acofhc.org, or e-mail info@acofhc.org
