STYLISH LIVING IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA

A Home With Heart

There is a very satisfying sense of continuity about the Brevard Showhouse. Every few years, a cadre of the area’s most gifted designers come together to create a dream home that, in turn, helps the community to realize the vision for one of its most vital resources — Transylvania Community Hospital.
“We’re a not-for-profit hospital,” says Sharon Johnson, Executive Director of the TCH Foundation. “So we rely on fundraisers. We’re the only charity in the community that touches every resident’s life, at one time or another.
“Brevard is growing — it seems that there’s building everywhere; we’re a changing community. We wanted to address the real estate aspect of the economy for the hospital — with people moving in, a growing population, it means new demands on the hospital.”
For the hospital, the proceeds of the two-week event support the ongoing construction of a new inpatient wing, but for the visitor, the benefits are aesthetic as well as altruistic. The 13 rooms we’ve featured here give us insight into the creative minds of some top-notch designers, and point out some very exciting trends.
Our favorite elements? Delicious colors: eggplant, citrusy greens, robust reds — claret to burgundy, and luscious browns — dark chocolate and espresso. Sensuous, sculptural shapes. And mirrors, not just on the walls, but also on the furniture: sideboards, coffee tables and vanities bedecked in antiqued, Venetian-style reflective glass.
There is inspiration and imagination to be found here. Join us as we tour this joyfully diverse co-creation. It’s a house with heart…and soul!
