A Breath of Fresh Air
Downstairs Guest Suite by Designs of Style
Like the trill of birdsong on a clear mountain morning, Heather Herring’s guest suite is both calming and exhilarating. By combining lyrical shapes, soothing hues and a few untamed, natural elements, she has created a chic sanctuary with plenty of moxie and wit.“Refreshing is what I was looking for,” says Heather. “Uplifting yet tranquil…sort of a spa feel.”
The centerpiece of the generous room is an elegant, high-backed sleigh bed, upholstered in a Japanese-inspired pattern of blossoms and branches set against a pale, robin’s egg blue. Hovering just above, an elaborate twig chandelier provides an airy counterpoint.
“The color selection for the room was based on bed fabric,” Heather explains, “but the chandelier inspired the overall design. I wanted it to feel hip and sophisticated, with a touch of romance, so I’ve mixed in some fresh, modern pieces along with the traditional mountain elements, just to keep things interesting.”
“I incorporated a sitting area and breakfast area because the room is so large, and with all these angles and windows, it could accommodate the separate spaces.” In the conversation area, sculptural white armchairs with nail-head trims flank a low, antiqued mirror table, which provides sparkle while retaining the expansive feel of the room.
Near the window, Heather has positioned a painted wood table with a distressed finish and natural wood top and a pair of wicker chairs to provide a perfect perch for sipping morning coffee and gazing off into the surrounding woodlands.
A good spot to breathe deep and listen to the birds sing.
