STYLISH LIVING IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA

A Perfect Pearl
Main Floor Guest Suite by Greeson & Fast

What do you do when you’re faced with a relatively small space and less than ideal window placements? You pull out all the stops — make it glamorous, luxurious and a little offbeat.
What may have been seen as a challenge to others became an ideal canvas for Jean Greeson and Richard Fast to showcase their eclectic style and problem solving skills.
The inspiration piece for this main floor guest suite was the carved and tufted 1800s bed, which had been lavishly reupholstered in the ‘20s or ‘30s. “The bed is kind of low by today’s standards, so we found ways to visually raise it up,” says Jean.
“Although the room has a 9-foot ceiling,” she continues, “the windows are all very low, and the main window is boxed in, which brings the eye down. So we’ve raised it back up by taking the draperies all the way up to the ceiling. And, of course, we had to have an amazing chandelier to bring the room totally up. To me, that’s the jewelry.”
The restrained palette of pearl tones — cream, bisque, grey and muted blue — enhances the illusion of expanse. “We chose the wall color because we felt it was very soft, subtle and relaxing,” Jean explains, “and it works so beautifully with the bed.”
Maintaining a low profile for the furnishings keeps everything in proportion, with antique mirrors, gleaming porcelain wall art and silver accessories providing pizzazz. “There’s a lot of glass and mirror and metal in the room to create sparkle and reflections,” Jean notes, “yet the room has an Old World elegance.”
With accommodations like these, guests are sure to feel not only welcome, but spoiled.
