A Tasteful Blend
Dining Room by Interiors of AshevilleThe art of exceptional cuisine requires the masterful blending of ingredients so that each retains its unique flavor and is enhanced by the others. The same goes for interior design, and this chic dining room by Shelly Lunch-Sparks, Margaret Edwards and Loree Olsson is a tasteful combination that is nothing short of delicious.
“Our thought was to tickle the senses — to bring them all into play,” says Margaret. “We wanted a look that wasn’t typical of the mountains,” explains Loree, “so the room has more of a European influence, but goes along with the theme of the house — being in a rustic, woodsy setting — so we went with a lot of natural woods. Antiques from Eastern Europe blend in with that, as do the sculpture and handmade pottery.”
“We wanted to break the room down into simple elements,” Shelly notes. “The table, for instance, is basic; wood, slate and iron — it has great angles.” The table’s strong lines are softened by the neutral, gently curved side chairs, and contrasting armchairs. “The dark wood, with the leather and upholstery, gives them a rich look,” says Margaret.
The icing on the cake is the well proportioned, hand painted armoire — elegant yet unpretentious — with a pale, distressed finish that says ‘make yourself at home.’ The overall impression is fresh, clean and relaxed — an ideal setting for savoring fine food and great conversation.
